It’s an interesting profession being a chauffeur. You meet so many people on their travels and at truly eventful times in their lives for some others it’s just another day at the office.
One day you could be driving a director of a major fashion business the next you’re talking the soon to be Mr & Mrs Smith to their wedding day. No 2 days are the same. So is that why people like chauffeurs? Is that why some find the role of the chauffeur appealing? Who knows, but what we do, you can’t just fall into. You have to work hard and be a dependable rock for your client.
Let’s take this scene for example. It’s Prom weekend and we have been booked by a 20 something who wants to arrive in style and become this years prom queen. We are told where she wants picking up and what time she needs to be at the party and what time she will be leaving. So far so good, trust me sometimes they don’t tell us where they want us to be and they’ll tell us 30 minutes beforehand… anyway we digress. So we pick the arrive at the “Prom Queen’s” address and she comes to the car with 2 of her friends probably infused with a glass of wine or 2. In there hand is some more drinks.
Now what would you do? Let them in the car no problems they’re paying so why not? Stick by your no alcohol policy and explain the drinks cannot come inside the vehicle? Or is there another way? So many questions.
Either or you have a choice to make. The choice you give will determine the relationship you have with the client going forward so give in and they may ruin your car and you’ll have to get it cleaned. Tell them No, they get upset, they are paying for the service why can’t they have a drink in the car? Or do you talk to the “Prom Queen” and understand her a little and then say something like ” Let me put these somewhere safe, I don’t want to give you a huge cleaning bill if you spill these”.
Now if i replace the word “Prom Queen” with “Business Woman” and rather than “Prom Night” It’s “Awards night” then a chauffeur would have to approach that differently. All in all Prom Queen, Business Woman, Actor, Celebrity or even the happy bride chauffeurs do more than drive.
