The Goodwood Racecourse not only provides a spectacularly beautiful race course and venue but also a wide range of exciting events.
Goodwood Horse Racing Days Season Opening
The start of a new season at Goodwood Racecourse is a fancy and elaborate affair that draws a huge crowd, ready to celebrate the next series of events. It is a mix of high-quality racing, a food festival with award-winning food, and a sale of excellent fare and organic produce from local suppliers. Goodwood’s opening day is as grand as ever. While the adults are having fun with a 7-race card, children are entertained with storytelling sessions held at the Gingerbread Man marquee on the East Parade Lawn. It’s also at the East Parade Lawn where musical performances take place live.
Family race day
There’s something for everyone in Goodwood’s Family Race Day. This year’s event was done in association with the NSPCC. Some of the activities include farrier talk and demonstrations, hands-on workshops, trips to the race start, a behind-the-scenes tour of the racecourse, and a chance to walk the course itself before the horse racing event starts. Before the main card, there’s also a pony race, where young jockeys showcase their skills and talent. For this event, one part of the Goodwood Racecourse is transformed into a fairground.
Three Friday Nights
As the name suggests, Three Friday Nights are held for three successive Fridays, which started 3 June this year. For each of the three evenings, a 6-race card is held, which will then end with a night of glamorous partying. From the usual hallowed turf, the Parade Ring transforms into a party venue. For this year’s event, 3 world famous DJs will perform each night, starting with Sister Bliss, Mistajam and Basement Jaxx.
Qatar Goodwood Festival
Also known as the Glorious Goodwood, the Qatar Goodwood Festival is the highlight of the flat-racing season. It exudes glitz and glamour, with thrill and excitement thrown into the mix. The event is traditionally held at the end of July. Since the first Steward Cup was held in 1840. Glamorous Goodwood still attracts champion jockeys, finest equine athletes and trainers. One of the event’s much-awaited race is the Qatar Sussex Stakes with this year’s prize money of £1 million.
