Sporting Events 2022

Sporting Events

Whilst 2022 is well underway and the whole country is returning back to normal after the pandemic, we look at the upcoming sporting events in 2022, as spectators return to celebrate sport in the UK.

April

Grand National, Aintree – 7-9 April. One of the most famous horse races in the world takes place in April. Last year Rachael Blackmore created history by becoming the first female jockey to win the Grand National, but can she win again in 2022?

Premier League matches across various venues in the UK, throughout April-May. Who will be crowned the English champion, out of 20 teams battling for the honour this year?

May

The Emirates FA Cup final, Wembley – 14 May. Whilst Leicester is the current cup holder, who will lift the trophy this year for men’s football?

Women’s FA Cup final, Wembley – 15 May. Last season’s final was delayed until December when Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley. But who will lift the cup for the Women’s FA final this year?

June

Epsom Derby Festival – 3-4 June. The world’s most famous flat race sees riders and owners compete. The event this year will be held as part of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend festivities.

Royal Ascot – 14-18 June. Royal Ascot attracts many of racing’s finest horses and is also equally synonymous with exquisite fashion and magnificent millinery creations. Enjoy 30 races over 5 days.

Wimbledon 27 June – 10 July. The Championships, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is widely regarded as the most prestigious. Who will lift the trophy this year?

Henley Royal Regatta – June 28-July 3rd. For the first time in the Regatta’s history, there will be racing over six days instead of five. With crews participating from all over the world, this makes for a very exciting day out.

July

British Grand Prix, Silverstone – 1-3 July. Lewis Hamilton won last year’s race despite a controversial crash with Max Verstappen. And the Briton’s duel with the Dutch world champion promises to be one of the great rivalries of 2022.

Women’s Euro 2022, England – 6-31 July. The England women’s football team will look to go one better than the men’s team by becoming European champions for the first time, while the Netherlands seek to defend their title. Whilst Northern Ireland has qualified for the first time.

October – November

Rugby League World Cup – 15 Oct-19 Nov. Delayed by a year, the tournament features 61 games and separate tournaments for men, women and wheelchair players.
